When many people think of garage door repair, they think huge repairs that usually include replacing springs, cables, door panels, or overhead motors. The truth is that some garage door repair can be very small and important, such as replacing clicker garage door opener remotes.

Most clicker remotes for garage doors simply stop working because the battery has run out of juice. 90% of the time, these remotes can be fixed by simply replacing the one or two AA batteries and whala, you have fixed your garage door remote. The other 10% of remotes have either been damaged or broken by some means to make them irrepairable. If you are in this 10% category, how do you fix this clicker garage door opener?

The only thing you can do at this point is replace your remote. Where can you find one you might ask? It’s actually quite easy as most hardware stores carry remotes that are universal and will work with any garage door opening system. Once you get a new replacement remote(s), you must stand on a ladder and sync up the garage door opening motor with your new remotes. If you do not do this, you can press your clicker remote all you want, but the door will never open or close. You have to sync up the codes so that the garage door opener can look for the signal and so that your remote can be set up to send one. This process usually takes about 5 minutes and once it’s been synched up, you never have to do it again.

Remember that garage door remotes usually only last about 6-8 months on the batteries put inside of them. Always replace the batteries first if you are having trouble getting the garage door remote to work. We hope this article has been helpful in your quest to fix your clicker garage door opener.
