Doing a garage door sensor repair may be the most simple of all garage door repairs. That being said it is one of the most important. It is now regulation that your garage door has a sensor that can stop the door from going down if there is an obstruction in the way. Without, it poses a possible danger to you, your children, and even your pets. A garage door going down could potentially crush and injure a human or a pet so as soon as you notice the sensor isn’t working it is very important to change it.

The first thing you need to do is to when you are doing a garage door sensor repair decide what brand of sensor goes with your garage door. It should say on the side of the sensor bar and there may be a serial code, which will help locate the new part. Once said order directly from the manufacturer you purchased the garage door from. If you are ordering a part on line it is possible to find compatible devices that are not the same brand.

When you obtain the part and are ready to install it open the garage door and then turn power off to the area you are going to be working. When disconnecting wires electrocution is a hazard, so to avoid any injury it is best to disconnect electricity. Your next step is to unhook the wires from the old broken sensor. Once they are disconnected, reconnect the new sensor to the wires exactly like the old one was hooked up. It is that simple.

Once the repair is complete you can test your work by placing an empty box in front of the sensor and pushing the button to check and see if the garage door continues to go down. If it stops and goes back up, congratulations you did it right! If it continues going down and crushes the box you will need to go back and check your work. Make sure all of the wires are connected correctly and are not loose.

Garage door sensor repair is a simple task, yet it is very important and should be completed as soon as the old one does not work correctly anymore. Be sure to take care of it as soon as possible to avoid injury to you, your pets, and your children.
